What is a personalized book?

A personalized book is a real children’s book where a child gets to see their name in the story. They might be the hero. They might be the best friend. They might be the narrator. The authors and illustrators who have created these great works have identified which characters can be customized. In some cases you will have the opportunity to name multiple characters, and you can include sisters, brothers, cousins, friends, or anyone else. You tell us the name(s) you want, and we weave it right into the story’s words so the book reads like it was made just for them — because it was.

How does it work?

Browse our books, open one you love, and click “Personalize & Buy.” Type names for as many of the customizable characters as you like, and sometimes the pronouns. You will pay one all-included price (except taxes are calculated at checkout), and we will create your personalized book. We will email you the moment the book is ready to download. Most happen within a few minutes, but please be patient for an hour as things can get a little crazy during holidays and promotions.

What can I personalize?

You can set the name(s) for the book’s customizable character(s). Anything you leave blank simply keeps the original name from the story. Many children’s books characters do not really have gender slants, so some books also let you choose a character’s pronouns. When that option is available, you will see it on the book’s Personalize & Buy page.

How do I get my book after I buy it?

We will email you as soon as your book is ready. Then head to “My library” in the top menu, sign in with the magic link we send to your email, and download your book. No password to remember.

What formats will I get?

Every book comes as a PDF (great for reading on any device or screen) and a Kindle-compatible .epub (perfect for e-readers and Kindle apps). You can download either one, anytime, from your library.

Do the download links expire?

No. Your books live in your library, and the download links do not expire.

Are the books printed or digital?

Right now our books are digital only — you will get a PDF and a Kindle .epub to read on your phone, tablet, computer, or e-reader. Printed copies are not available yet, but we are working on it.

Can I buy a book as a gift?

Absolutely — personalized books make wonderful gifts. Just enter the child’s or person’s name when you personalize the book, complete your purchase, and download the finished files. You can then share the PDF or .epub with the lucky recipient however you like.

How are children’s name kept private?

We only use the name you provide to create your personalized book — and only that. The names are never sold or shared, and they are only ever used to make the story yours.

Are the books safe for kids?

Yes. Our children’s books are written and illustrated for young children, with warm, age-appropriate stories you can feel good about reading together at bedtime or anytime. Books appropriate for teenagers or adults may be available in the future, but will not be listed as children’s books.

How long does it take to make my book?

Usually just a little while — personalizing a book is quick. You do not need to wait around: we will email you the moment the book is ready, and it will be waiting in your library.

What if something is wrong with my book or order?

We want every book to be just right. If something looks off, or you have a question about your order, click “I need HELP!” and we will take care of you.
